A capital call is a request made by the venture capital fund’s general partners to limited partners to contribute a portion of the committed capital. Instead of requiring all committed funds upfront, the VC fund calls capital as needed to make investments, pay fees, or cover expenses. Investors are obligated to provide the requested funds within a specified timeframe once a capital call is issued.
